The Joans

About Me

Somewhat of an Adelaide "supergroup", bringing together members of some of the festival city's favourite bands (The Fiddle Chicks, Problem Pony, GT Stringer), all hailing from different genres to create a musical sound of their own. Sometimes described as "Spooky Folk Blues", The Joans meld ukuleles, guitar, fiddle, banjo, accordion, mandolin and of course vocals to interpret original songs and an eclectic range of folk, blues, spiritual, country and old jazz material. Featuring Di Caught (Problem Pony) singing songs of love, death, chain gangs, lunar thoughts and longing whilst strumming her beloved ukulele while local surf jazz/dirty rock & occasionally crooning heartthrob Jim Redgate (GT Stringer, King Daddy and James Beige) has his way with his banjo and guitars. Kim Perry of Adelaide Hills string outfit The Fiddle Chicks adds the melodic twist with her unique and thoughtful violin playing. In their short life as a band so far, The Joans have played some pretty special shows including The Adelaide Festival Centre, the hugely successful Tom Waits show as part of the Adelaide Fringe Festival, The Trinity Sessions, the beautiful Wheatsheaf Hotel and ABC radio station - to name a few!
