MUSICOZ NORTHERN RIVERS CHAPTER CLOSESThe Northern Rivers office of Musicoz based in Mullumbimby is winding down its operation. The office has been operating with the support of Envite and the Work For the Dole (WFD) scheme. The WFD program is not really set up to fund community offices but rather it is set up to run one off community projects that cater to the skills shortages in an area. Shane Murphy the area coordinator would like to thank the local music community for its tremendous support over the last 2 years and the enthusiastic efforts of all the participants who were involved in the project. Shane says “ The project ran for two years, but was continually changing each six months to keep up to date with catering to the ‘skills in demand’ requirements for WFD projects. The music industry is a multi-billion dollar industry and needs to be taken seriously as a valid career optionâ€. Some of the real success stories for the Musicoz Northern Rivers project include: The release of an independent music business zine –Pure Volume, 3 clips aired on Foxtel showcasing local events, setting up of a music coop, grant advice, promotional support and also event support for many local festivals including the Fatherhood Festival, Bangalow Songwriters Festival, Mullum and the stars and many more.
National Musicoz Manager Pat Maloney had nothing but praise for Shane Murphy saying "The success of the program in the Northern Rivers region is a direct testiment to Shane's passion for music as well as his skill and ability to engage people on all levels in the community. He freely parted with his wealth of experience and knowledge of the music industry to many of the talented artists and bands in the area".
Musicoz is still operating from its head office in Wollongong as a national organisation in its own right. Keep posted to www.musicoz.org for all the details of this years Musicoz Awards 2007.
