"I remember waking up once when I was 16 and Trouble was sitting next to my bed staring at me. Her real name was Jill but she called herself Trouble and we were a trusting lot. For a while I loved her but never spoke of it.
We were a bunch of kids in the same crappy high school that was bad for our health. The gang of us would hang out, skipping classes or ignoring the benign ones. Often I would wander over to the Home Ec room partly because no one ever thought to look for me there but also because they had all the makings of corn bread in the cupboards and I happen to like corn bread very much. I don't mean to generalize about Home Ec teachers but if I was ever caught baking corn bread in high school when I should have been learning Algebra or getting beat up in the hallways, nothing ever came of it. "
