Passion – it’s a rare quality to find in today’s world of jaded musicians, and an elusive emotion to capture in song. But when William Boreing picks up his guitar, you hear raw passion in every string bend. This passion lends an addictive energy to his tone. “When he plays, you just somehow know he means every note,†a local fan said.
Influenced by such greats as Stevie Ray Vaughn, Steve Vai and Jonny Lang, Boreing exemplifies a skill and dedication beyond his years. “I grew up in a small town where there wasn’t much to do. My choices were either get into trouble or play guitar, so … I played a lot of guitar.â€
He currently plays with the Lubbock-based band Under Ember and is a commercial music major at South Plains College in Levelland, Tex. There he has played with the program’s prestigious Touring and Alterna-TV ensembles, and was recently named Outstanding Instrumentalist of the Year in Rock/R&B/Jazz.
“Will Boreing is one of the best up-and-coming guitarists around. He’s fiery and passionate and completely loses himself in the music. It’s a beautiful sight to behold,†said Scott Faris, former director of guitar studies at SPC.
And though he is certainly up-and-coming, Boreing doesn’t plan to stay there long. He has bigger things in mind. “[Making it is] all I’ve ever thought about … and I work hard enough to get there.â€
