About Me

Somewhere between a monkey & a cliché
J.R. Newton was raised for the first seven years of his life in Salford, in the north of England. After his home was over run by homeless people and drug addicts, (one of his earliest memories being of a naked woman lying in the hearth of the fire in their living room), his family moved 15 miles further north to the spiritual home of the black pudding.
Young Newton developed an interest in music, but was thwarted by his music teacher, who said he could not play the trombone due to the fact that his arms were too short.
Undeterred by this rigid thinking, Newton learnt to play all manner of instruments, (though never the trombone, despite the length of his arms increasing with age)...
...Some years later he journeyed south to the city by the sea where J.R. Newton formed 'a broad green', as a form of catharsis to overcome a series of trials and tribulations, explained and interwoven within the his music.
described by Rob da Bank
(top Radio One DJ and all round nice guy)... as 'David Sylvian-esque'
with more mantra rather than song...
kick off your shoes... lie down... close your eyes and listen to the bitter sweet sounds of a broad green...
