Jacobs Exit is what you get when you put Matt Sawyer (18) and Steve Blackwell (17) together in a room and give them any amount of creative time. Getting their feet wet in numerous bands around their Kitchener high school for years, finding a truly committed group that shared a common focus
seemed a nearly impossible thing to do. After deciding to write an acoustic song together to play at a Coffee House, the boys and their song started to gain a great deal of attention from their peers, it was clear they were onto the start of something.
Many more songs were heard around the school in an early acoustic form. Eventually gaining the eye of an upcoming show in Cambridge, the guys were invited to play an acoustic set. At the same time, they were starting to jam with a few friends who would serve as crucial stage musicians in their plan
to someday rock out the local music scene as a full rock/alternative band. The Cambridge show was a success, crowning off the release of their self-produced "Acoustic Sessions" EP. Right after this show they had instantly gotten the invite back to play another in the coming months when the full band was ready to debut.
The band debut was of great success and subsequently led to a bunch more shows around the city for the guys, now playing as a 4-piece with Kris Germann on bass and Sam Keating on drums. Their love for playing charity shows has had them seen at events like “Kenya Dig Itâ€, which was a show to raise money to help send medical supplies to Kenya and “Slamin' The Industryâ€, another show for raising awareness about the evils of the tobacco industry. Their latest success being a show in front of a nearly sold-out audience at Kitchener's Registry Theater, having the chance to open up for huge local act, "The Doug Clayfield Trio" at their CD release party. This show was a blast for the guys with both audio and video being professionally recorded for an upcoming DVD of the night.
Now, it's hard at work on the full band album. Matt and Steve are still the creative influence behind the band doing all the writing, recording and producing of all the songs and instruments themselves. Their live shows however still aren't possible without stage musicians Sam Keating and Kris Germann lending their expertise on drums and bass respectively.
