About Me

Founder of legendary Burnin Red Ivanhoe and Secret Oyster
Worldclass saxophone player Karsten Vogel was born in 1943 in Copenhagen, Denmark. He has played the alto saxophone since the age of 14.
In 1967 Vogel formed Burnin Red Ivanhoe, which has indeed become a legendary band on the Danish and European rock/jazz scene. During the years the band played well over a thousand jobs with tours in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Germany, UK and India.
During the years 1972-77 Vogel formed and led another legendary band, the pioneers of instrumental fusion Secret Oyster. With this band he toured most of Europe. Equally Vogel played concerts and tours with artists such as Captain Beefheart, Herbie Hancock, Shakti and Weather Report. Secret Oyster has re-united in 2007 due to invitations to play festivals in USA.
From 1978 Vogel has worked also with smaller groups under his own name as well as with the band Birds of Beauty and the famous Danish actor Frits Helmuth.
