About Me

Mark Zandveld is (acoustic) bass guitarist and the coördinator of the Deborah J. Carter Quartet, (check her out at www.Myspace.com/deborahjcarter) and is available for freelance work on electric and acoustic bass as well. He is familiar with a wide spectrum of styles ranging from jazz to soul, blues, R&B, Latin, Brazilian, funk and pop. Mark is also (co-)producer of 4 CD's by Deborah J. Carter ..Mark Zandveld was born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and started with guitar lessons when he was thirteen. After a few years he switched over to bass, though he still doubles on guitar as well. He worked with several jazz, funk, soul, and rhythm & blues bands, amongst others: Lee Roberts & the Sweaters with soul-legend Arthur Conley. Mark remastered a unique last live recording by this artist for re-release on CD.After a period with many gigs in the Amsterdam club scene, he went to Hollywood to study at the renowned Bass Institute of Technology. He completed his study receiving the "Yamaha Bass Player of the Year Award".Back in the Netherlands, Mark played in Bluespower with ex-Alquin vocalist Michel van Dijk and guitarist Wil Sophie, and as freelancer with many Dutch and American R & B, funk, and jazz groups and artists. With the experience of his study in America, Mark also started teaching, both private and at a local music school. After a year long stay in Portugal (where he worked with jazz vocalist Maria Viana and Eurovision candidates Da Vinci) he lived several years in Spain where he started to work with American jazz vocalist Deborah J. Carter. ..Since 1993 Mark works steadily with (and is since 1994 married to) American jazz vocalist Deborah J. Carter. Together they started their company JoyFelt Productions, for which they produced four contemporary jazz CD's. As the regular bassist of the Deborah J. Carter Quartet, in the past years his activities include theater concerts, jazz festivals and clubs, TV and radio performances, and seminars in Holland, Belgium, Malta, Germany, Spain, Portugal, France, England, Canada, U.S.A, Turkey and Azerbaijan. Mark also enjoys playing with several bigbands.Besides his musical activities, Mark is engaged in the management and website maintenance for JoyFelt Productions. He runs the Joyfelt mobile studio, based on a Yamaha AW4416 harddisk recorder. He was beta-tester for the Waves Y56K plug-ins card, for which he also wrote additional manuals. Mark endorses Takamine basses; he plays both the Takamine B10 "mini upright bass" and a unique custom-built fretted "horizontal" version of the B10. Check out the video's to hear him playing them.
Recently Mark has started a weekly Vocal Session at De Badcuyp, Amsterdam.
