The music scene in Richmond has always been a bit on the heavy and hardcore side. Tyler and I (Wes) started playing music more seriosuly after college. We were living in the Fan area and knew of several of friends or bands that either lived on Grace Sreet or played at a popular venue, the Nanci Raygun, which was also located on Grace Street. We felt our music was more pop rock and consequently much lighter. We were going "against" the grain, if you will. For lack of a better term, we came up with "Against Grace" meaning that our sound was different than anything else in Richmond.
AG has been around for several years, but during the last year and a half Against Grace has received two new members, recorded a full-length album, and played some pretty nice venues. AG is finally emerging from the crowd and making a name in the area. Every day our fan base grows, we gain new friends, fans, and family throughout every show. AG's sound has started to spread into more areas than it had before with the addition of its two newest members.
AG's full-length album, "Monroe" produced by Rich Stine (Fighting Gravity, Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers, Colourslide) and recorded at Low Watt Studios (Raliegh, NC) was released at Richmond's greatest venue, The National Theatre on September 13th, 2008; with special guests: Juniper Lane (recent winners of DC101's Open For Coldplay contest), The Secret Cool, The Jim Ivins Band, and Colin Healy and the Jet Skis. AG had also released a new tshirt during this extravagant event.
Since the release of the album, AG has been focusing on touring outside of the state and will be taking their music up and down the entire east coast. Be on the lookout for updates about shows and the album becoming available on CDbaby.com and Itunes.Live at the National in Richmond, Va. -Feb '08
