MayFish Custom Drums

About Me

COMPANY:
MayFish Custom Drums is a drum company that specializes in creating the drum YOU want. From top to bottom. Not only do we strive for that perfect finish but in contrast to many other custom drum builders, we focus as well on the sound-part of the equation. Producing high-end custom drums is not only a question of the right color or wrap around a shell...it's about sound. And that sound should be what you're looking for. Whether you play in a high gain metal band or in a three piece jazz combo...we've got it covered.
PRICES:
Our mission statement is to bring you the drumkit you want and with a reasonable pricetag. We feel that a custom drum should be available for every drummer, not just the top-10 drummers who can afford it. Yes, we only use the very best shells, hardware and finishes...but that doesn't mean we're willing to ask 6000€ for this.
As every custom drum is different there are no fixed prices. So please feel free to drop us a line at MAYFISHMAIL or through this myspace-site for further info.
SHELLS:
*Our standard shell setup is 8-ply maple shells for toms, 10-ply maple for bassdrums and 10-ply maple for snares. We like to use these shells because they offer both the right amount of warmth and attack. The thickness of these shells is still quit thin, resulting in a low sound but offering great tuning range. It is possible to use 6-or 5-ply for toms, but we recommend these only for jazzy-type of music.
*However if you want something different (like birch or vintage mahogany shells), that's no problem at all...pretty much everything is possible. We have bubinga ply-shells, we have beech-shells...
*We do stave shells or segmented shells as well. So if you're looking for that true wood-sound...we got that covered as well.
*We also use single ply solid snare shells. This is the same way the original Radio King snares were fabricated. A timeless classic...
*If you want somthing different like a 11-ply, 12-ply, 16-ply, 20-ply,50-ply, whatever-ply...we can provide this as well.
*If you want acrylic shells, no problem...we do GnT, RCI and Aqua Bomb shells...
*You like the sound of the famous Black Beauty? No problem, we use the same black brass shells as back in the days. Maybe you're looking to get an aliminium snare or bell brass or titanium...? We've got it.
*We even got carbon fibre snare shells...
...so that pretty much covers the entire market.
EDGES:
We feel that a double 45° bearing edge gives you the right tone for the drums. This cut results in a very wide tuning range and seems to bring out the best in our drums. We like to flatten the top ply to reduce a bit of the unwanted overtones.
For snare drums we like to produce different edges for different snares. One drummer likes more overtones, while the next wants a warmer, more muffled sound...so we cut our edges accordingly.
All our edges, snare beds etc... are hand finished to ensure extra fine detailed work...That is what custom drums is all about.
FINISH:
From satin finishes, to glass glitter wraps. From high gloss paint jobs to subtle stained shells... Powdercoated hardware in every color you want... To vent or not to vent... Full color band logos on bassdrumhead...your imagination is the only thing that can hold you back.
ENDORSEMENTS:
We're always looking for endorsers. If you think that you've got what it takes...drop us a line and present yourself. We've got different types of endorsements, so maybe there is one fit for you.
