ÄRRÄPÄÄ-Orchestra goes global! The blues-, roots-, rock-combo released its first English album “On The Loose†not long ago. On the new album, the band didn’t make any major changes in their music, instead just continued with their jolly rhythm-rock for business and leisure. In their music, the band combines Finnish melancholy with the warmth of americana.
The package is built from old classics as well as new original tunes. The bands’ long time favourite and mutual idol, Bob Margolin, is covered with a version of his traditional blues “Brown Liquorâ€. Another all time favourite, â€She Never Spoke Spanish to Me†by the Texas Tornados, is handled more traditionally.
During the past few years, the band has toured with for example Pepe Ahlqvist and Maria Hänninen. Influence of both is also heard on the album, as Maria sings on several tracks and Pepe is present via a version of his biggest hit “Back to the Riverâ€. The only other visitor on the record is the man who took care of the recording, mixing and producing of the album, Petri Majuri, who plays a guitar solo on “Blues Porchâ€.
With the new album ÄRRÄPÄÄ-Orchestra also presents its new logo, in which a traditional mexican cuckoo, spiritus fortis vulgaeris yukatanies (a.k.a â€the tequila-pidgeonâ€) is aggressively participating in the music making process with its maracas.
The ÄRRÄPÄÄ-Orchestra is Petri R. [â€Ã„rräâ€] Haapio behind the keyboards and an original Sputnik accordion, Mika R. Halttunen playing rhythm guitar and vocals, Kari R. Siuru handling electric and acoustic bass, Ismo R. Kivinen on the drums and Harri R. Sakki doing solo-, rhythm- and acoustic guitars.
