Urban Street Records was created as a independant Australian record label and established in 2000 following a joint venture between Ilias Bafas and Universal Music in Australia.
Ilias Bafas, the founder of Street FM Melbourne achieved national success and recognition in the Australian music industry after he compiled the track listings, artwork and launched "Street FM volume 1", which rated number 9 on the ARIA charts for 13 weeks in 1999.
Street FM is the freshest radio station in Australia and a world first broadcasting live on the internet from 2001 with a 'Live, Raw & Real' DJ program policy. The station was born on the streets of Melbourne and set up in 1999 with the support of the AFL Development Foundation, the Delta Street Mission, Melbourne's homeless and street kids and is complimented by young aspiring individuals from within the music and media industry to provide an alternative to mainstream commercial and ABC services. Our music format is dance/urban. Local Australian music is sourced, supported and developed - Turning On Australian Talent". Street FM is committed to maintaining a high level of diverse underground radio programming and music, as well as sourcing and further developing new local and independant international dance music.
In 2001 Street FM launched its broadcast on 87.6FM in Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast, Queensland. In 2008 the FM network is expanding to the Sunshine Coast in Queensland and to Perth, Western Australia. Street FM will be back on-line with our live internet streaming from our Gold Coast Studio very *SOON* - 2010.
The Urban Street Records Team, under the company motto ..Where music takes on a life-form', has magnetized a creative network of talented individuals which comprise of the whole process from songwriters, producers, artists, studio facilities (in Melbourne and in Queensland) to the creative side of e-media, video production, artwork and graphic design.
In 2010, Urban Street Records is currently planning the next releases in Australia, double CD compilations distributed by Energie-Music, and will also be available in Digital format on-line.
