About Me

I've been working in theatre all my life--as an actor, playwright, director and designer. My main interest, however, is writing---not just plays, but also on philosophy, ethics, politics and art criticism.Religiously, I am a Reform Mormon--so I tend toward polytheism (the belief in many gods) and Deism (the belief in the supremacy of nature & existence, a rejection of the supernatural and the conviction that Reason is "the only oracle of man.") In other words, traditional religions might say that my religion is not a religion at all.In a nutshell, I believe in Eternal Progression for the human race. I reject the ideas of "being saved" or "damned." I champion the individual, and am dedicated to the individual's right to live life according to the dictates of conscience--not in obedience to commandments, tradiitons or the dictates of others. The life of the individual human being is my highest value. I believe that human beings have unlimited potential. In accordance with the later teachings of Joseph Smith (the first Mormon), I think that people need to put aside their superstitious ideas regarding the character of God, and that we all need to "learn how to be Gods ourselves--the same as all Gods before us have done." (quote from Joseph Smith).Or to put it another way:"As man now is, God once was; as God now is, man may become." (Lorenzo Snow, 19th century Mormon theologian)I've written several essays which can be found in the Reading Materials section of www.reformmormonism.org. I also have a blog--The Reform Mormon Gospel Doctrine Class--which can be found at: http://refmogospeldoctrine.blogspot.com/I also moderate the Yahoo Reform Mormon Discussion Group at:http://groups.yahoo.com/group/reformmormonismdisc/
