About Me

Hello. My name is Paul Nevin. Born 19th January 1967 in Belfast, N. Ireland. The first music I can remember listening to was The Carpenters' 'Ticket To Ride' LP (my dad bought it for me). I also got their 'Horizons' LP as well. Stop that sniggering at the back!!. I must defend myself (get my retaliation in first!) - some of their songs were pretty good, if a little middle of the road. As far as I'm concerned, the song is all-important. If a song is good, then it's a good song...as simple as that. If it also happens to be a Rock song, then that's a major bonus! Rock music first coursed into my veins when my brother (Hi Gary!) bought Thin Lizzy's 'Live and Dangerous' album. Wow! Don't know how many times I listened to it over the years. From that I graduated to various other Hard/Heavy Rock bands. Like Deep Purple and their offshoots - Gillan, Rainbow, Whitesnake, various 80's bands and also a lot of late 80's/early 90's bands. One band I was into in a big way was Mamas Boys. I bought most of their albums (even their 'Official Bootleg' first album). They were an excellent band and I saw them quite a few times at their legendary Ulster Hall shows. As far as actually playing is concerned, I taught myself the basics of the guitar then turned to bass guitar. I joined my first band 'Triple X' in January or February '88. It split in October '88. I joined 'Xtrax' shortly after that and it lasted until March/April '90. I was a founder member of 'Bad Reputation' in September '90. I left that to join the final 'Emerald' lineup in February '91. It folded a few months later. I then joined what was to become 'Bad Crazy' which lasted until early '94. I joined 'Native Sun' around April '94. We wrote some great, hook-laden songs and eventually recorded and released a 5 track CD called 'Things Change'. 'The Ex-Girlfriends' (also, briefly, called 'The Northampton British Rail Staff Association Club') ran for a while alongside 'Native Sun'. My involvement in bands ended when I left 'Native Sun' in September '97. Sharon and I were married in September '99 and I moved to Newry, Co. Down (Sharon's home town), about 40 miles south of Belfast. Our daughter, Lauren, was born on 23rd December 2001 and our son, Daniel, was born on 28th September 2004.

My views on Bass Playing

I first became interested in the bass guitar when I was listening to Michael Schenker's 'One Night at Budokan' live double album.  I had been teaching myself the guitar up to that point (i.e...
