About Me

Roland E. Smith, Spuggi, a child of a prominent neighborhood seamstress was born in Kingston, Jamaica. His father died before he was born and his mom moved to Spanish Town where he got his education. There he attended public school. During his teenage years his passion to conquer the music world caused conflict with his daily academic studies. He was encouraged by his mom to be more focus’ but he focused on music. Spuggi insisted on following his dream to sing and performed instead despite the lack of support.Spuggi began to sing at age eight; He volunteered to sing at church, concerts, stage shows and any other events. His popularity earned him the title, “Artist of the Town,” he vowed to live up to the name. Spuggi had some stage fright but he manage to move pass it. His love for music coupled with neighborhood support created independence and confidence.At the big reggae shows he would hang with the well known artist. At the age of fifteen he got his first exposure to large recording studios such as The Penthouse, King Jammy’s and Black Scorpio. He watched popular artist during their recording sessions. This experience helped Spuggi to guide in cultivating his own new reggae style. . As he grew and formulated his own style, he got the opportunity to appear in various competitions like the Tastee Talent Show, J.C.D.C. Popular song Contest, Jamaica Cultural Development Committee, Reggae Trail singing competition, hosted by Suzie Q. A reggae music commentator from CIN T.V., These were highlighted events to his growth. Each time he performed he got an overwhelming response from the audience.In 2006, he recorded his first single in America, Neva Wan Dat, On AMG label, Arsenal Music Group at Ideal impressions Inc.in Atlanta, Georgia.Upon returning to Jamaica Spuggi recorded a second single called, “Mamma you’re The Best,” Featuring Junior X, produced by is brother Kane of Ideal impressions Inc. and DJ Stunna of Must Rich Records. The video was produced and directed by Fabrikated projex which aired frequently on various televisions through out the island and overseas. This video dominates the internet and can be seen on You Tube and MySpace.On various occasions, Spuggi shared the same stage with artist Sean Kingston, Shaggy, Sizzla, Junior Read, Sean Paul, Vibes Cartel, The Alliance including Mavado and Bounty Killa. Just to name a few.Hard work and perseverance are Spuggi’s middle names, He is ready and prepared to take on any musical challenges that are about to come his way. He says that the people who inspired him the most such as, Bob Marley, Beres Hammond, Sizzla, Buju Banton and Bounti Killa; have had it hard in the past but in the end have proven to be very successful.
