The first two songs currently in the player (I Watched You Eating an Apple, Your Little Gift) are demos of tunes slated for the new CD. The third song is a fresh new basic track for "Sunflower". It is now on the stockpile, waiting for a future session to add drums and bass, then back to my studio to add whatever else it wants. The long middle section will one day have a solo in it. "Mama Forgets" is a song I wrote last summer for my visiting California friend Bob Zander, who plays kalimba (a.k.a. African thumb piano) on the track. His mother has Alzheimers and we had some heartfelt discussions about how hard it is to see someone you love deteriorating day after day. This is more-or-less the final version of the song for the CD.
In my every-day working life, I'm a versatile career musician, performing in all sorts of unusual circumstances. I also do work-for-hire as a composer, arranger and transcriber. In these lines of work, I've found it helps to enjoy irony and surrealism, since they often wander in and happily take up residence on the couch.
Due to my weakness for inexplicable twists of fate, I am an on-going Music Artist-in-Residence for the Buffalo High School Arts Magnet Program in Buffalo, MN. I have brought music to chemistry, physics, math, history and english classes, so far, and stretched my own brain quite a lot in the process.
In addition to my solo shows and trio shows, I can often be seen performing in the greater Minneapolis/ St. Paul area with Metro Jam, The Joe Demko Quartet, Bruce Henry, Redneck Hippies, and the praise band at Golden Valley Lutheran Church. I am grateful to these and ALL the musicians I get to perform with for the opportunity to entertain and to earn a living doing what I do best.
