Prophets Thumb

About Me

Prophets Thumb is a combination of two, torn apart by music in the begining, and brought back together by music years later. As a "band" there have been so many incarnations of Prophets Thumb and those bands that went before, and so many great musicians have come and gone and come again. As in all things, there is constant change and flux. The law of nature. The times we live in are in a great state of radical change, and as Earthmother, within the Prophets Thumb, I feel all changes particularly strongly. The need to be self sufficient is strong, leading me to learn to play the guitar and plant large gardens. The division among humans grows ever stronger, between those who sleep and those who can see with eyes wide open.Making a joyful noise, shaking the blind from their slumber, and feeding the hungry is the ultimate goal.

Band Members: Steve Buvoltz, the guitarist, played professionally for many years, touring in bands like Black Pearl and Mister Twister and opening for national acts like Steppenwolf and Joe Walsh. His talent for high energy electric leads, as well as his accomplishments on the bass are still legendary. After droping out of the music scene for several years, he is back once again in a much different form. He has worked hard at converting his talents to the acoustic guitar, creating a style of his own that sometimes ends up sounding like more than one guitar. He is the main tune writer of Prophets Thumb.Patsy Buvoltz - Earthmother - is the lead vocalist, banjo player, and percussionist. She's also the lyricist. Her musical background includes the first band she was ever in, Acoustic Impulse, which did mostly Greatful Dead covers and some old rock-n-roll. And Tribal Axis, an off the wall, blow the roof off the house jamband with some of the greatest relatively unknown musicians this side of the Mississippi River... Earthmother has always had alot to say about life, politics, war, philosophy, and has spent a great deal of time writing. And with an extreme love of music from an early age, it is to be expected that she would choose this medium to express her heartsongs. The taste for tribal rhythm led her to playing all manner of hand percussion. The desire to write tunes for her thoughts brought her to the banjo, an uncommon instrument played in some uncommon ways. And her vocals, inspired by everything from Joan Baez to Grace Slick, encompass a wide range of emotions, equally at home singing either an old time country tune or high powered, hard rock. Now, mix it all together and you have PROPHETS THUMB.
Influences: Joan Baez, Patty Smith, Tracy Chapman, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, Indigo Girls, Rusted Root, Greatful Dead..........
Sounds Like: Wow, that's a really difficult question! I guess you'll just have to figure it out for yourselves. I think we sound like Prophets Thumb!
