Trent Barry, AKA RENZ and DJ RENIE REN a native of Portland OR, has made a name for himself as a choreographer, dancer, radio talent, and now a DJ. Though a somewhat newcomer to the DJ scene in Portland, you would never know it based on his skill on the tables and knowledge of music. DJ RENIE REN better known as DJ RENZ, grew up with a diverse background of friends and family where he found himself exposed to all genres of music. .He was fortunate enough to spend his youth around DJs. Being a BBOY heavily involved in the Hip Hop community with best friend and fellow BBOY DJ Reckless (who went on to make his mark nationwide as a CLUB DJ/Promoter), Renz was surrounded by all aspects of DJing.Becoming a DJ was not a plan for Renz, as his first love is performing and teaching dance. He trained all over the west coast with top choreographers, and danced with numerous performing groups. During this time, RENZ and fellow dancer DURANTE LAMBERT founded the hip hop performing company " Portland Dance Project", selling out shows for 3 years. While leading his own company, he was always in need of new music, remixes, and edits of songs. Trying to track down available DJs for this task was difficult and time consuming, so he decided to invest in some DJ equipment and take control of the music for his company. By producing remixes and performance pieces, he polished up his mixing skills and built his arsenal of Vinyl that he had started collecting while doing street promotions for Priority Records Portland Chapter.A short time after the creation of The Portland Dance Project, RENZ landed a job as the WEEKEND MIX Show host on Jammin 95.5 (Portland Hip Hop/R&B Radio Station) through a recommendation by a Mix Show DJ. This is when he aspired to become a DJ. Working with the most talented DJs in the NW every weekend provided him an excellent start in learning the skills necessary to become an outstanding DJ. He developed and produced mix CDs that favored background exposure to 70's and 80's Hip Hop, R&B and funk, They became a hit on the streets and with dancers who loved the variety & the mix style. Soon to follow came gigs at parties, small bars, and eventually spinning at some of the HOTTEST clubs in Portland. Renz is known for his smooth transitions between the classics, current hits, and the songs you love but forgot about.
