Iguazu

About Me

Iguazu means “great waters”, and they are certainly one of the most beautiful falls in South America surrounding Brazil, Paraguay, and Argentina. This duet was born in 2000, with the meeting of the Ecuadorian singer Maria José TEJADA, and the French guitarist Donald REGNIER. Being also part of Son del Sol (Salsa Band), they both discovered and shared the same passion towards Brazilian’s colors and rhythms: Maria heard this music since she was a little girl, and made her remember her family (some of them living in Rio de Janeiro); Donald has played with several Brazilian musicians during the 10 past years.Beginning with a repertoire based on Bossanova and Jobim’s compositions, they also explore the music of the “Tropicalism Movement” such as Caetano Veloso, Chico Buarque, Gilberto Gil and Djavan. Moreover, they include Latin American traditional rhythms: joropo (Venezuela), son (Cuba), bolero, songs from The Andes. All these influences get mixed, and come out in Iguazu’s compositions and improvisations, which take a great part in IGUAZU’s stage perfomances. Duet is an amazing situation for musicians because it demands sincerity and authenticity, it offers great liberty for the players, and create an environment filled with complicity and sensibility, where no cultural bounds could delimit the same love for music. IGUAZU has won the 3rd prize at the international competition “Voice & Guitar” in 2006
