The story of the Steamboat Band began with our ole pal, Leroy "Keys" Kramlin, and his discovery of an old busted set of ivories in the back of his grammy's house. It was about this time, a mysterious newcomer came to town, with nothin' but a mouth organ and a guitar strapped to his back. These two formed a quick friendship and with the help of childhood friends, Oliver & Thatcher (Thatch to his friends), they began creatin' tunes tellin' the story of the places they lived and the lives they led. They were excited about their newfound collaboration but somethin' still felt amiss. Little did they know, the Sheriff's daughter, Maggie Fay, had been doin' a little eavesdroppin' on their playin' in the old barn, and finally introduced herself (and her cute li'l fiddle) to the boys. The boys knew in an instant this was just what they had been lookin' for, and come hell or high water, they were ready to play. So there you have it, the story of the beginnings of the ole Steamboat Band and from here on, the Lord only knows where the mighty rivers will take Keys, James, Oliver, Thatch, and miss Maggie, but for your humble narrator, well, the sun's settin' out behind the bayou and it's time for me to be goin' home.
