Hot Spoonful of Mouthwatering Sounds Stew...Yummy!
Defining Oriental Funk Stew seems to be just as hard as sorting out each ingredient of stew. He is an eyewitness who has been watching the Electronic music scene of Korea growing as well as a ground breaker for the other Korean artists to go overseas. He is a hope to Korean Electronic music artists walking the lonesome road only with passion and perseverance. He is a chemist who brings out explosive energy of forever-progressing House music. He is a marathoner who has been running with House culture. Also he was the first one that created a high-level party culture with quality music in Korea introducing the foreign Electronic music artists like Jay-J, DJ Heather and East Coast Boogimen through Innerthech and Baseline Production. With these accumulated credits over years, he finally puts out the highly anticipated first mainstream album in Korea in April 2008.
Originally, Oriental Funk Stew is known for his simple and precise beat without melody. However, in , he serves us more flavorful sounds in collaboration with Soul vocalist Honey-J and saxophone featuring of Suro, the producer of the most famous House band in Korea, Houserulez. With powerful melody line, his magical sound stew only became more wholesome and scrumptious. For the “real†taste of House music, he brings in funky saxophone, soulful vocals, body moving percussions on heavy and steady bass lines and finishes up with some delightful sprinkles of disco sound.
, the album faithfully grounded to the roots of House music, allures common listeners as well as critics and maniacs. Each track is very straightforward but not too light or shallow. As we listen to the first track, ‘We Will Survive,’ we may find ourselves walking into a club with him. Then in the first single cut, ‘Sweet Melody’ shows what this album is all about. It reminds us of a scene from an old romantic movie as it sounds rather familiar but still classy and elegant with calmly spreading melody and a blue guitar riff. After, he lets us throw our bodies and souls to the bursting percussion and an addictive hook of the track, ‘Fly.’ In the track, ‘House Music Is,’ we can taste his original minimalistic sounds too.
This album is the sweet fruit of his long time passion and deliberation. must be a perfect guide for the House music beginners and a euphoric experience of Korean House music for the maniacs at the same time.
