Jersey City killer is caught on tape
County homicide detectives have recovered video footage that captures the brutal murder of a Jersey City man Sunday, including images of the gunman continuing to pump bullets into the victim after he was lying on his back in the street, officials said.
It also captures people in a parked car that pulls out after the shooting, goes around the body of Javon Williams, 19, of Bramhall Avenue, and disappears after the 1:51 a.m. murder at Oxford and Bergen avenues, officials said.
"Please help us solve this case, Javon didn't deserve this," his mother, Rochelle Williams, pleaded last night while sitting in her son's room.
The video, which law enforcement officials would not release, shows the victim and a friend apparently retreating after an argument with the gunman, who may have been with a younger male, Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio said yesterday.
The gunman is seen taking out a gun and firing at both men, hitting the victim and continuing to shoot him after he goes down, DeFazio said, adding that Williams was hit at least five times.
Police think the shooter may have arrived at the scene on a bicycle that was recovered there later. A gun was also recovered at the scene and it will undergo ballistics testing to determine if it is the one used to kill Williams, DeFazio said.
Rochelle Williams said her son recently graduated from Lincoln High School and "He was looking for a job and he was excited because people were calling him back. He didn't care what, he just wanted to work."
She said her son was to begin studying psychology at Hudson County Community College.
Javon Williams had never been in trouble, his mom said, and DeFazio confirmed that. Rochelle Williams' older son gave her the bad news the morning of the shooing.
"It was a cold calculated act of wanton violence," DeFazio said. R.I.P my nigga i luv u nigga and you will always be remembered in my heart my nigga.
