LIVE Review
Sunday 16th March 2008 @ Pressure Point, Brighton
" ...Reduced to being a three-piece because lead guitarist Lyle Ferris was wrestling a cod, This Modern Life trawled the depths of their talent to serve up a veritable treat of punk rock. Making blunt and powerful music in the ilk of Jimmy Eat World, they let simplicity speak volumes as lead singer Bertie Taylor’s deep, emphatic voice carried their message. Their music had a tense quality to it, rippling with anxiety before each chorus broke out like a mood swing."

"Playing moody pop punk with influences of Brand New and Jimmy Eat World, Brighton quartet This Modern Life kicked off the night with a sparkling musical vitality. They waltzed through a set of melodic, endearing and catchy numbers using pacy beats, meticulous changes and heartfelt material. Praise also goes to lead singer Bertie Taylor and those silvery notes. Whilst their influences provided a fitting comparison for their music, it’s his voice that makes them stand out from the crowd."
