About Me

This is my third year as a PhD student at NC State. Officially my major is Biomathematics, but what I do is probably better characterized as mathematical or theoretical ecology. That means I try to answer ecological questions using the tools of math and statistics. My main interests in ecology have to do with the mechanisms which generate and sustain complexity and diversity in ecological systems. My adviser and mentor is the brilliant and erudite Dr. Kevin Gross, aka The Gross Method. A latent interest in human health and infectious diseases is prompting some changes, though: In May, I plan to graduate with an M.S. in Biomathematics. Then over the summer, I'll be moving to California to start an MPH in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at UC Berkeley. It's going to be weird leaving Raleigh after eight years here, but I'm excited about a new school and living in San Francisco, and finally living with Leslie again.
