John C. ""Buddy''K. Jr.., after a 2.5 year courageous battle with head and neck cancer complicated by pneumonia contracted during his evacuation due to Hurricane Katrina, died peacefully at his residence surrounded by his loving family on November 22, 2006. Buddy was a life-long resident of New Orleans, graduating from St. Aloysius High School. He worked 10 years for the New Orleans Fire Department before moving to the grain export business where he worked as a freight forwarder for Thionville Laboratories (Schwartz Forwarding Co.) for 26 years. Buddy loved helping people and fixing things, being of assistance wherever he could and spending quality time with his family. His love of life and strong sense of family values are the qualities for which he will be remembered most. Buddy is survived by his devoted wife of 28 years, Gaynell; his sister, Deborah; his children, Richard (Janet) Rebecca (Charles) and Jeanne-Claire; and his beloved grandchildren, Christina, Melinda and Tristan. Survivors also include his nieces and nephews, Linda Bradberry (Raymo), Claire Camille, Carlos (Angie), Hunter and Chase, Melissa and Raymond, and Donald. Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, Claire and John C. Sr., his sister Jeanne Clare and her son Kenneth. A memorial service will be held at a date to be announced in December. Gaynell Olsen K. passed away Sunday afternoon, July 5, 2009 surrounded by her loving family. She was 59. She joins her husband, John C."Buddy" K. Jr. in heaven along with her parents, Al and Alma Olsen and her brothers William Olsen and Al Olsen Jr and his wife Clarice. She will be missed by her children, Jeanne-Claire K., Richard K. and his wife Janet, Rebecca D. and her husband Charles and her grandchildren, Tristan and Kristi. She is also survived by her sister, Debbie K. and her daughter Claire K., her niece Linda B. and her husband Raymond and their children, Carlos L. and his wife Angie, Don W. and his wife Kim, Melissa and Raymond. Her cousins, Mike M. and his wife Connie and their children and grandchildren, Jon M. and his wife Nina and their children and grandchildren, Rick W. and his wife Charee and their children, and Jerri W. W. and her husband Frank and their daughters Courtney and Julianna. Gaynell's thoughtful and caring manner will be missed keenly by all who came in contact with her. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Memorial Service at Mt Olivet Episcopal Church, 530 Pelican Avenue on Algiers Point on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at 1:00pm. This was her childhood church where she was married and maintained ties with later in life after moving away. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Mt. Olivet Episcopal Church.
