About Me

Portland, Maine singer/songwriter Sara Cox has just released her third solo cd, “Crowded is the New Lonely”. This is the follow up to her well received previous cd, “Arrive” which was named best album of the year, 2004 by the Portland Phoenix and led to such honors as being listed as “one to watch” by the syndicated public radio show “Acoustic Cafe” in association with the USA Songwriting Competition and sharing the stage with artists such as Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, John Hiatt, Suzanne Vega, Ray LaMontagne, Stacey Earle, Joe Ely, Richard Buckner, John Hammond and Lori Mckenna, among others. Her hometown AAA radio station, WCLZ has added both “At Home with Home” and “The Fog” from “Crowded is the New Lonely” and she is currently working with the Artist Development Co-op to gain airplay on national non-com AAA stations. Her most recent cd just spent several weeks in the top 40 on the Americana Radio Chart which is recognized and listed by Radio and Record.Cox hails originally from Nashville, TN where she wrote her first lonesome ballad on a tiny ukulele at the age of 6. Singing was a mainstay in her household with both parents being musicians and singing 3 part harmony was part of the usual after dinner entertainment.A mother of three, her songs are filled with honest, sometimes autobiographical portraits of life as it is really lived. Her warm and resonant voice is always in the forefront, but backed by strong melodies and the talents of longtime bandmates guitarist Nate Schrock, bass player Steve Jones, vocalist Megan Jo Wilson, and drummer Chicky Stoltz, the songs are full, often intimate and unique. Cox recently won the Granite State Songwriting Competition for the new cd’s track 6, “At Home with Home” as well as being a finalist in the International Acoustic Music Awards.
