About Me

“From the songs, to the musicianship, to Carla Kendall-Bray’s compelling stage presence, colorfield represents something rare these days – a REAL BAND!”
--Rob Hotchkiss, founder of Grammy winning band, Train
“These veteran musicians don’t see the point in trying to deliver anything short of superbly polished, radio-ready (and arena-friendly) pop-rock.”
--Barbara Mitchell, Portland Tribune
“They are a straight-ahead pop band that plays really thoughtful tunes…like watching Matchbox 20 combined with Sade. Carla is the consummate performer.”
--Kevin Welch, music director, KINK radio

colorfield has built a reputation for delivering radio-ready melodic, textured guitar-based rock. The band’s unique combination of styles, textures and moods is only one element that explains its recent climb in popularity on the Portland music scene.
Lead singer Carla Kendall-Bray, whose heartfelt lyrics provide the depth to colorfield’s music, is likened to a hybrid of Amy Lee (Evanescence), Sarah McLachlan and Annie Lennox. From a small club gig to a sold out theater concert, Carla is a captivating live performer who commands attention from her audience.
Guitarists Patrick Goebel and Paul Lesinski provide the unique soundscape that defines colorfield’s sound. Imagine David Gilmour meets The Edge and you begin to get the picture. Bassist Mike Budd and drummer David Kendall round out colorfield’s line-up with a back beat that can only be described as hypnotic.
colorfield has shared stages with Storm Large and The Balls, Luce, The Motels, The Gin Blossoms, Berlin and Glen Phillips of Toad the Wet Sprocket. The band was asked to be the backing musicians for Grammy winning Train founder Rob Hotchkiss for his solo debut at Northwest Music Fest 2005. And, Carla was invited to perform onstage the colorfield song “So High” with Jethro Tull frontman Ian Anderson on his last Portland stop. Also, based on audience vote, the band showcased in the finals round at the recent Rockstar Energy Drink “Mix It Up” competition at Portland’s Crystal Ballroom in front of a sold out house of 1,500.
Songs from the band’s latest CD, simply titled ‘colorfield,’ have aired on Portland radio KINK and KNRK.
