The most fun project...
The Fairy tale graphing project was the most fun for me because i think it really helped me understand graphing in a clearer way then if i were to just look at graphing through textbooks. I think graphing a fairy tale or picture book was helpful for me as a learner because i've known the story of rapunzel for my whole life, but never really thought about the variables to the story. It was a challenge for me to try and find the best variables to tell the story of rapunzel.
The most challening project...
The motion detector project was the most challenging project of the unit for me because i had never done a project like it before, it was a new experience. in most of our other projects we had to make a graph to match data. In this case we had to match data to a graph. Every line and turning point had to match perfectly and we had to figure out how we could do that depending on time spent walking, where we started, how fast we walked, and where we stopped. it sometimes took 5 or 6 times to get it perfect.
Improvement from the beggining of the project...
This was the first individual graph we did of the unit. The graph has variables that struggle to tell the story of the gingerbread man, and the description of whats going on in between the points is directed at each plot point, not the lines in between. The graph also doesn't show what unit of measurements the variables are. (example: time.=military time)
Later on...
When making this graph i started to use variables that made more sense, it told the "story" of our experiment very well. This was also a point where i got better at making predictions.
During this assignment i improved a lot on accuracy, beforei didn't really understand why lines had to be exact, but then through this assignment i now understand how every piece of a line can drastically effect data and information.
Through this assignment not only did i improve on accuracy but i also improved on telling the story based on the graph. Before i would just tell the story how i knew it, but now i learned to make sure the story fits the graph and vice versa. Little details can be made up as long as they fit with the graph.
graphing my progress
This is a graph showing my progress throughout this unit. My indepandant variable is time, and shows all the days in this unit. My dependant variable is percentage of increase in my understanding. this was determined by a few things..
*choosing the right variables
*telling a story based on a graph
*making a graph based on a story
*figuring out why things happen the way the do
During the fairy tale project there is a rapid increase in the graph, between the dates of 10/16-10/18. This is where i learned a lot about structure of a graph, and what everything i was putting on the graph really meant. From there my learning increase is steadily increasing, then the increasegot a little steeper when we learned about intersecting lines and what that could mean in any situation. the reason my graph doesnt end at 100% is because theres still more i can learn about graphs, and graph analysis but overall i think i have a very good understanding of the unit.
My own project...
STRUCTURE OF THE GRAPH
GRAPH TITLE: COUGARS vs. TIGERS BASKETBALL GAME
INDEPENDANT VARIABLE:Time [minutes]
INDEPENDANT VARIABLE RANGE: 0-25, intervals of 1
DEPENDANT VARIABLE:POINTS
DEPENDANT VARIABLE RANGE: 0-62, intervals of 2
---=cougars
---=Tigers
DATA
Intersecting point(s): 1 minute into the game both teams had 1 point;;10 minutes into the game both teams had 12 points
22 minutes into the game;; each team had 44 points.
Beginning of the graph:The tigers were winning the game, but the cougars were not far behind them, their closest score was where their scores intersected at 1 minute with 1 point, their farthest score was at 3 minutes where the Cougars had 1 point and the Tigers had 4.
Middle of the graph: The teams are tied 10 mins into the game where each team has 12 points, Then the Tigers points increase drastically while the cougars at first doesnt increase at all and then increases very slowly. From 14-20 mins the Tigers got tired and began to slow down. By 18 mins the Cougars had 28 points and the tigers had 34 points.
End of the graph: as the tigers begin to tire out, the cougars are getting energy,at 22 minutes the teams intersect each with 44 points then the cougars increase steadily as the tigers slow down. The end score at 25 minutes was Cougars had 58 and the Tigers had 56.
