Launched in the UK in September 2005, TLA Releasing is dedicated to broadening the choices available to film lovers by specialising in quality independent, international cinema and gay/lesbian-themed titles on DVD in the UK.TLA stands for Theatre of the Living Arts, and the company began in the early 1960s as an experimental theatre group founded under the direction of Andre Gregory (of My Dinner With Andre fame) and included actors Danny DeVito, Judd Hirsch, Sally Kirkland and Ron Leibman. In 1971 the venue became a repertory cinema presenting international, independent and cult films. The cinema closed in 1980 but in 1981 several former employees (including the current partners today) bought the cinema and re-opened it as a nationally recognized venue with a vision to bring all types of cinema to film lovers.
