About Me

Phi Joseph Nguyen
Oct. 4, 2007 @ 4:56pm
7.9lb, 20 inches
Baby Phi Joseph was born Thursday, October 4th after 39 weeks of waiting. Tuan and I went to the hospital Thursday at 12:30am because my water broke. Pitocin was started at 5:30am and my contractions started at 8am. Phi was a big baby for me and he was face up instead of down. The Dr. mentioned a possible c-section but I never, ever entertained the idea. I just asked for time and to let me try. I just wanted a chance to push. The Dr. thought because I was all baby there might not be enough room for him to rotate into the face down position. (I gained 23 lbs and Phi was 7lb 9oz.) We attempted to rotate him all morning and afternoon by me switching laying positions every hour or so. While there was no room for him to turn, the Dr. rotated him as he came out. This was by far the hardest labor and delivery for me. He's here now and he was worth the pain, hours, and stress. We're adjusting to life with 3 boys and we're loving it!

I'm probably not the person you used to know. Or should I say, thought you knew. I have come a long way and I'm still learning. I've made mistakes along the way and I'm happy to say that I have learned from them. I'm still learning from them. All we can do is live and learn...and laugh. That always helps. Muahahahaha. And then have a nice glass of wine, or two.
FOOLS RUSH IN...
Tuan and I married months after we met. We were introduced by a mutual friend, Khiem, and initially we spoke on the phone occasionally, strictly as friends. I was barely 21 and he was 29, almost 30...I thought Tuan was funny and we were just getting to know each other, as friends. Seriously. Anyway, I was attending Lamar University in Beaumont and I would come home to Houston every weekend to party, I mean visit my family. Anyway, one night me and my girlfriend Mary needed a ride home from a club (our crew was headed to after hours) and Tuan and Khiem offered. They dropped us off, that was that, no big deal. We ran into each other a few more times after that and the rest is history...we had only hung out for 3 WEEKENDS when Tuan told me he wanted to be with me "for a long time". It really happened that fast.
"What do you mean a long time?", I asked. Then he asked me to marry him. Actually, he wanted to hop a plane to Vegas and get married that night. I wasn't up for the challenge. I was so confused that I started crying. 4 months later we were happily married, alone. We didn't care what people said or thought about us. We still don't and never will. We live for us.
It took a little hispanic girl to settle him down, tehehe. Tuan and I joke that we started dating after we got married. It has been so wonderful and I wouldn't change a thing. I love Tuan so much and Tuan loves me! Now I make damn good pho...Tuan says it's better than any restaraunt he has eaten and his mom even asked about my recipe....I'm so in!
About the pose...I told the photographer that I didn't want traditional wedding poses. He didn't have any ideas so I took charge. I sat on the floor, told my husband to do the same, and the photographer just started taking pictures...we went from sitting to laying. When we went back to look at the pictures, a framed 36" x 30" of this pose was in the window! The photographer even made business cards of us and used the picture in a magazine advertisment. We can always tell where people took their pictures when we see "our pose".
Tuan and I were married Feb. 5, 2000. We became first time homeowners in April 2001. Our lives have been blessed with three healthy, handsome boys that I am very blessed to stay home with. Khoi Colin was born March 2001, the day after my birthday. Khoi loves to draw and act and is quite the movie buff. He enjoys watching the directors cut, additional footage, and all the credits of movies. He takes piano lessons and plays on a b-ball league. Linh Cruz was born in August 2005. He is strong willed and smart as can be. He started out such an easy baby and is becoming quite the terror. It's Cruz's way or else. He attends Mother's Day Out twice a week. Phi was born October 2007. We're on the every 2-3 hour eating schedule so sleep is non existent in our home.
We moved July 2007. We thought we would be in our first home forever but we saw a house that spoke to our hearts, made and offer, and here we are. It's a hop, skip, and a jump from our first home...it's only 5 minutes away.
Along the way, I graduated from U of H in 2003 and we opened a dry cleaners that same year. We adopted a 12 week old kitten, Thomas, in 2003. Tuan and I opened a JUGO JUICE in The Woodlands Mall in Aug. 2006. God has blessed me with more than I could have ever dreamed for myself and I am ever thankful.
Hmmm, what else...Oh, I enjoy changing my hair color, length, and style. There isn't a color or length I haven't had...from blond to black and from boy short to waist long, I've had it all. I've had good cuts and bad cuts, good color and bad color, and through it all, I always go back for more! I've donated my hair to Locks of Love. What can I say?, I love it! Besides, it's just hair. If it can't be fixed, it'll grow back.
Umm, I'm a little of this, a little of that...
I don't wear a lot of jewelry. I love jewelry. I've had a nose ring for 3 years. Fruit is yummy. I'm highly allergic to mangos. I don't like coconuts. I love Thanksgiving dinner. Dressing up for Halloween is so much fun. I'm a slight germaphob. I'm a sarcastic smart ass. Coffee gives me a headache. I love wine. Watching my sons eat makes me smile. I pray everyday. I hem my own pants. I love weddings. Bad table manners make me loose my appetite. I squeeze toothpaste from the bottom. I don't like going to the movies. I love to watch movies at home. I always drink from a straw. I enjoy foot massages. I hate when I'm eating pizza and I bite into a fennel seed. I have one tattoo. Purfume gives me a headache. I pick out my husbands cologne. I make lists. I prefer short nails. I don't enjoy cooking. I'm a good cook. I save eggs to make cascarones for Easter. Undisciplined children annoy me. I don't procrastinate. I don't like waiting when I make an appointment. I enjoy looking at real estate. Talking on the phone is annoying. I talk a lot. Even if it's not broke, I fix it. I like socks. I rarely wear socks. I wear sunscreen everyday. I use coupons. I enjoy talk radio. Purses are pretty. Getting a shampoo at the salon feels so good. I'm particular. I don't like being particular. I always wear a seat belt, even in the back seat. I don't like to waste anything. I need an apron. I like oatmeal with brown sugar and banana slices. I have too much makeup. I don't wear a lot of makeup. Dining out is enjoyable. My dreams are very real. I don't eat seafood. I rarely check my voicemail. Christmas shopping stresses me out. I had Lasik. Some might say I'm a perfectionist. I agree. I get my hair trimmed every 10-12 weeks. I get annoyed when p3oPle tYpE 1iK3 tHi5. What the hell is that?
I never imagined my life would turn out this way. I really am blessed to be so happy and in love. I've been through so much and I know I deserve it so I am thankful for everything the Lord has blessed me with...a loving husband, healthy children, and a happy life.

Music:

My dad is a musician so I was exposed to music from day one, very loud music to say the least. I'm named after Eric Clapton's song "Layla".

I enjoy ALL genres, from blues to pop, classic rock to hip hop, reggae to country, classical to spanish, and everything in between. Too much of any one genre gets old quick.

I especially enjoy live music. My dad is an amazing guitar player and I love going to his gigs...you should go sometime, if you like blues and classis rock!

Did I mention I

Movies:

First things first, I don't do horror movies or sci-fi.

Some of my favorites: Urban Cowboy, Caberet, Office Space, Stir Crazy, Blow, Napoleon Dynamite, The Party, A Tree Grows In Brooklyn, Empire, Great Expectations, Small Time Crooks, Grease, Father of The Bride, Money Pit, The Notebook, Raising Arizona, A Christmas Story, National Lampoon's Vacation, The Color Purple, Shop Girl, The Outsiders, Driving Miss Daisy, The Glass Menagerie, Shawshank Redemption, Cheech & Chong, It's a Wonderful Life

Television:

is turned off during meal time. Everything I watch is DVR'ed.

Ugly Betty, The Office, Big Shots, SNL, Desperate Housewives, Chelsea Lately, Comedy Central, Project Runway, ANTM, Malcolm in the Middle, Best Week Ever

Books:

Whatever Khoi checks out from the library!
I think books are better than the movie.
Next to my bed I have parenting and relationship books: The Five Love Languages, His Needs, Her Needs For Parents.

Some goodies are: River, Cross My Heart, The Good Earth, anything by Amy Tan, Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl, Mother of Pearl, The Great Gastby, Where The Heart Is, To Kill a Mockingbird, Drowning Ruth.

I must admit I read The Nanny Diaries. While it wasn't inspirational or a straight read through kinda book, it was entertaining.

Heroes:

*God. He gave his only son so that we may go to Heaven.
*Jesus. He died for our sins.
