Portland Oregon's jazz scene is very fluid. I am often asked to sit in with other local musicians at their events. Likewise, other local musicians sit in at my events. The engaging client, nature and scope of the specific event, and scheduling availability of very talented Portland musicians dictate the composition of the band at any particular event. Regardless, if I am being asked to sit in with another band, or inviting musicians to sit in with me, I am always playing with the very best musicians within Portland's jazz community!As an endorser of Drum Workshop Inc. Influences: With regards to drumming, I can’t pick just one drummer that influenced me. There is no doubt that Buddy Rich greatly influenced me, but he was influenced by William Henry “Chick” Webb, who was in turn influenced by others before him. What ever I say behind the kit probably has been said by one of the drumming greats before me at some point in space and time. The art of playing drums is to voice my perspective on what others have said.There are many non-drummers that influence me as well. Edward Kennedy “Duke” Ellington’s enormous contribution of compositions to the jazz musical art form; the brilliant music that was created in the face of personal adversity by Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk. All of these artists, and more, were very driven individuals. They played because they loved what they were doing. In spite of any obstacle that may have prevented them from pursuing their passion, they never decided to turn their back on the art form and go do something else for a living.
