She Rocks is a collectible calendar that features the hard working women of the Austin, Texas music scene. Our goal is to honor these women by featuring local musicians and industry gals. The women of rock'n'roll are breaking down the stereotypes and shaking up the industry, and we are here to pay our respects!
She Rocks was created by In the RA Studios photographer, Ricardo Acevedo as a tribute to his mother, a mariachi and jazz musician who passed away when she was 39 of cancer. While keeping true to all that is rock'n'roll, the photography captures each woman’s crude reality, energetic essence, rock ‘n roll grit, and of course, every shot is hot, hot, hot! The images recreate the edgy drama that is forever sex, drugs and rock ‘n roll. It is not polite – its direct – its hard – its heart-felt – and its dirty. And we are lovin' every minute of it!
This racy calendar debuted in 2006 with proceeds going to Katrina evacuees and affording New Orleans musicians with strings and painters, canvasses. In 2007, She Rocks teamed up with the Austin Music Foundation to raise money for Austin's only nonprofit organization focusing on industry education programs and business development for Austin's independent musicians. AMF has been helping independent artists prosper by providing information they can use to develop their career and grow their art as a business. The greatest opportunity for most artists to thrive is taking advantage of the entrepreneurial nature of today's music industry.
