It was during this time period that the majority of the Chicago club scene owners weren't open to guesting an all original Chicago area group for taking their stage unless it had proved successful on the charts & toured America or traveled across the big pond & back. They should have a reality show for club owners "where are THEY now"? For the one's that took the chance, they found their place filled to capacity. ------------------------------------------------------------ ---------------In 2001 we had a Limited Edition 25 Year Commemoration "MAMMOTH 1976-2001 CD that featured the 2 songs "Suzie" & "Sweet Jeanie" from the 1976 various artist album that rekindled the past. Recorded at Streeterville Studios Chicago, Mastered at United Sound, Inc. Burbank, CA.--------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------------------------------------V AN HALEN & MAMMOTH: (Chicago area Mammoth 1974) Chicago area's Mammoth Kiderian Records producer Ray Peck had told us of a West Coast band that was using the same name, yes this is the Chicago "Mammoth" Band that was the reason that the West Coast Band called Mammoth had to change their name... to Van Halen.------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------(Info from early Van Halen bio:link:http://www.rockhall.com/inductee/van-halen) It was during this period that they came in contact with David Lee Roth, the vocalist for a band from which they occasionally rented a P.A.; deciding they would be better off with a full-time singer (Eddie having been filling this role with little enthusiasm), and impressed with Roth's skills, they lured him into their ranks. Not long afterward, bassist Michael Anthony was culled from another local band, cementing a line-up that would endure for the next ten years. Upon discovering that the name 'Mammoth' was already taken, the four changed their name to Van Halen (apparently at Roth's suggestion) in 1974. Van Halen changed their name from Mammoth to Van Halen! Influences: Aerosmith, Led Zepplin, The Who w/Keith, Framptons Camel, Mountain w/Felix.... Mott The Hoople..Additional influence on this writers life was back in the early to mid seventies having the exhilarating experience of watching the rise to fame of both Heartsfield & Styx. Inspite of the many clouds they faced on the horizon through the years both bands continue to make great music. In the words of Emerson: "Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trial". (Steve Crabtree)
