Electric lights flicker, a dead calm still over the city. The first light of dawn illuminates the speeding tube as the tunnel ends. Deborah Vivien Butts, a 21 year old London-based singer-songwriter and producer is riding the first tube home, suspended between two worlds, two extremes of reality. The world of the club she left one hour ago and that of the first buttoned-up early morning suited commuters.. Sticky with dry sweat, make-up halfway down her face, ears still ringing, she has no desire to sleep, only to write.Debbie is dedicated to writing music that excites her and reflects on her experiences, the choices she has made, and the fantasies she has.  British, born in Hamburg, raised in Edinburgh, she moved from Edinburgh to London at the age of 17, turning her back on university to follow her dream.  Straight away she got herself into a dance company (Dance2XS) and secured a Publishing Deal with Jana Wolff Management.  Having written since 14, she collaborated with teams in Oslo, Berlin and London, performing her own material at the 2006 Football World Cup Fanfest and writing professionally for commercial projects (Sony).  Her first management were keen to draw her towards a singer/songwriter Katie Melua type sound.  But Debbie wanted something different.  She was performing regularly as a dancer and singer, performing at Heaven with artists such as Jasper James. Her time in London was changing her.  She was living in the north east in a warehouse, working in a bar, and a whole new world and way of life was opening up to her.  Breakbeat, electro, big beat. The legendary Fabric.  She had always loved pop but electro gave her a physical reaction.  Slowly, working with various producers and writers, she started to find and develop her own unique voice and sound.  Debbie's electro-pop album is one of the few not to revolve around relationships.   Picture an independent, stong female, striving to share her world and views through music.  It is based on her experiences since she moved to London, sounding somewhere in and around Underworld, Madonna, and with hints of Prodigy.  As a dancer she wanted to make something she could really move and perform with, something exciting.  Her music is a mix of a singer-songwriter meeting the clubs, influenced by breakbeat, with dirty bass lines, synths and catchy hook lines.  Over the course of 2008/09, she conspired with producer Daniel Peter to produce a collection of songs that is a realistic confessional account of her life in London, packed with dark topics and opinions. Her debut solo album is in the finishing stages.  Her vision of a pop project with the harsh sounds of the club are coming to life, and over the next few months she plans to perfect her album, and is looking to work with other producers in London on her existing material to capture and incorporate the essential sound of breakbeat and big beat.  You can contact Debbie at
