About Me
Aaron Williams is a performer, teacher, and composer originally from Kansas City, MO. He received his B. A. from Missouri Western Sate University (MWSU), and is currently a graduate student at Cal State Long Beach (CSULB). He has studied with Dr. Dennis Rogers, Kevin Bobo, Leigh Howard Stevens, She-e Wu, Gordon Stout, Steve Zee, and others.
As a performer, Aaron has served as a percussionist, keyboardist, vocalist, drummer, and most recently as a tap dancer. He has given solo recitals at Wichita State University, MWSU, and CSULB. He has served as principle percussionist with the Saint Joseph Symphony and the Golden State Pops Orchestra. He has served as musical director and featured percussionist for LA Ironworks, and has performed at the Madrid Theater, El Portal, the Holiday Festival at Pershing Square, and the LA Film Festival. Kansas City audiences remember Aaron as the featured mallet percussionist with Sticks of Thunder, a high-energy percussion show that performed to sold-out audiences for 18 months. Los Angeles jazz fans can frequently catch Aaron playing at such venues as the World Stage, the Jazz Bakery, Colombo’s, Steamer’s, the Pasadena Jazz Institute, and Martini Blues.
As a teacher, Aaron has instructed several high school drumlines in Kansas City, MO and Los Angeles County, as well as the MWSU drumline. He has taught private lessons in percussion and piano, has taught classes at MWSU and CSULB, and currently holds the position of percussion/theory professor for the Compton Conservatoire. He has also worked with such arts-outreach programs as Artsbridge, Midland Empire Community Arts, and the Allied Arts Council.
As a composer, Aaron has published and sold works for solo marimba, small ensembles, and drumlines; and has been commissioned to write for Park Hill High School, Polo High School, Oak Park High School, and MWSU. In 2001, one of his original works was premiered at the Missouri Music Educators Association Conference.
Today, Aaron continues teaching and performing in Los Angeles County, and working his way into the LA music scene.
