Wei Wang was born in China in 1983. He started learning the tenor trombone from the age of 10 and at aged 12; he studied under Professor Hu Binyu in the Middle School of Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. When he was at 14 yeas old, he began his bass trombone life. At aged 18, Wei was given a one year scholarship for his major, theory and ear training classes in Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing
Wei Wang was the bass trombone player of the China Youth Symphony Orchestra from 1999 – 2002. During these years, he performed many trombone quartets, brass quintets and bands. He performed the “outstanding student concert†in his high school as a representative of trombone student. Wei played many solo recitals, and has been invited by Beijing Art School to play solos in other cities. Wei has played with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, China National Symphony Orchestra and many chamber orchestras. Wei Wang went to the 2nd Canton International Summer Music Academy (CISMA) and Australian International Summer Orchestra Institute (AISOI). He was given an opportunity to record some trombone trio pieces, trombone quartet pieces and solo pieces for Professor Hu’s educational VCD.
In 2003, Wei Wang was given full scholarship from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music in Singapore as a bass trombone student. He is currently under the tutorage of Mr. Shannon Pittaway who is the principle bass trombonist in Singapore Symphony Orchestra. In 2006, Wei won the third price of YST Conservatory Concerto Competition. He is the semi-finalist in 4th Jeju International Brass Competition in Korea. Also, Wei is currently the freelancer of Singapore Symphony Orchestra.
After Wei got his music bachelor degree in Yong Siew Toh in 2007, he was given full scholarship to study in New England Conservatory (NEC) for his graduate study under Mr. Douglas Yeo. In NEC, Wei was a member of the Honors Brass Quintet.
Since 1996, Wang Wei has played in masterclasses and lessons with Allen Meek, Irvin L. Wagner, True North Brass, Gilles Millière, Denis Wick, Jorgen van Rijen, Albert Zuijderduin, Michael Bertoncello and many others.
