An addiction arose at the ripe age of 3. Crayola crayons were my fix. I could sit for hours, contently, drawing or filling in coloring books. Since I have grown up, my mediums have changed and the content of my art is not even close to what it was before..... My name is Nikki, and I was born to create..... I can't pinpoint a favorite medium to use. I have an infatuation for them all. I'm also always up for trying new techniques, methods, genres, anything that sparks a creative energy. I love to paint, using acrylic on canvas but sometimes on wood panels. Drawing with Prismacolor pencils and Micron pens, and etching glass with acid are a few of my faves, too. I've been making jewelry for about 15 years now. I use anything from silver, gemstones, glass and wire to hemp, wood, and bone beads.
My imagination is my most used medium. Most of my works come straight from the brain-each holding small to large influences...flowers, the weather, music, life, death, fire, the ocean, relationships, love, dreams, etc...I can copy things that have already been created: landscapes, portraits of people, etc- but what's fun about that? I'd rather borrow, for influential purposes, like a dj or producer takes a sample and turns it into a breath of fresh air. I love to challenge myself, pushing till I almost reach breaking point. This point is usually when I arrive to the monotonous stage of a piece...when repetition results in an obstacle of boredom. I strive for balance in my artwork and in my jewelry, just how it is in life- with the good and bad. It's unsettling to my eyes when things are not balanced, and I've always been this way. That's why my pieces tend to be very meticulous and symmetrical...mathematically graphed out. I'm a detail junkie, usually easier to obtain with the pencils and pens, rather than the paints. My drawings tend to take a lot longer to complete than anything else I do. But, then I ask myself, IS the piece complete, or is there room for improvement???
Besides what I had mentioned earlier, I also like to paint skateboard decks, make handpainted tshirts, jewelry boxes, murals, design tattoos, photography, flower arrangements, interior design, etc.
