I am here for Friends

About Me

I was born in Germany, raised as an Army brat I grew up in California (ocean, parrot funerals and boardwalks)and Missouri (rivers, yard mazes and building forts). I started high school in Newburg, MO. I graduated high school in Macon, MO. Went to college at Truman State University. I'm currently living in Columbia, MO. (That's a lot of MO - only thing keeping me sane is lots of travel). Lately, I've been to Germany (Munich & Nuhrenberg), Alaska (Ketchikan and outlying native islands), Italy (Rome, Naples, Pompeii, Milan), Greece (Athens, Delphi), and Peru (Lima, Chiclayo). Plans to wander around South America this summer got delayed since my best friend and travel-buddy got married!! (I couldn't talk her out of it?!?) After that, who knows? Graduate school is on the horizon (which always seems so far away considering we live on a spherical planet). I studied Literature, International Studies, and Art History at Truman State University. I've been a medic in the Army National Guard for 9 years now. My kids include my five year old sister (Cati), my four year old nephew (Landon), my seven year old niece (Breenie), and a nine year old beagle named Sally. I'm hoping to head back to South America in the near future and I'm dying for a Southeast Asia Adventure! Here's Bob Dylan singin' to me. Sing along. You know you want to... Music:

Opera, jazz (not the easy-listening stuff - the difficult to listen to kind, like some Bitch's Brew), blues, rock, hiphop...and Ray Peterson of course

Movies:

Independent films, foreign, documentaries, ie. Motorcycle diaries, Y tu mama tambien, (anything with Gael Garcia Bernal), Whale Rider, An Inconvenient Truth, you can link me on Netflix to see more preferences and recommendations. I think little Tommy's crunking is getting in the way of his school work!

Television:

Don't watch the boob tube. I do like Law & Order and HBO's Six Feet Under

Books:

Too many to list. I love good literature. I detest pop lit. EVERYONE MUST READ Ishmael BY Daniel Quinn. Favorite new author: Dominic Smith- his novel "The Mercury Visions of Louis Daguerre" is a great read. So is "The Beautiful Miscellaneous". I just finished 2 by Erik Larson - "The Devil in the White City" and "Thunderstruck". I'm also currently working on "The Histories" - wish me luck.

Heroes:

Buddha, Dalai Lama, Daniel Quinn, the Clintons, and people who have the guts to give up comfort to follow their dreams and live their passions.
