Grace & Gravity

About Me

So my name is Benton Kevin Stokes and I’m not all that comfortable writing about myself. But I’ll do my best.I’m a singer-songwriter-producer born and raised in Nashville. I’ve been playing the piano longer than I can remember and making up songs almost as long. I’m a sucker for a singable melody and a lyric that makes you think or feel. I write songs because I couldn’t stop if I wanted to. It’s just natural.I’m recording a solo project that serves as a Cliffs Notes for the last two years of my life. The songs are honest and vulnerable and real. Nothing manufactured here. From the opening guitars on “Sitting On The Edge Of Your World” to the last chord of “Unreal,” this project – Grace & Gravity – is me, heart and soul.If you’d like to know about me and my music, send me a message and I’ll try to shed some light. I appreciate you stopping in and I hope you like what you hear.Best, Benton

The Tyranny of the Urgent

They say you make time for the things that are most important to you. I guess I understand why "they" would say that. But in my experience, especially lately, there just isn't enough time for all th...

Happy

Do you ever ask yourself, "What do I want?" This is a tough question for me to answer much of the time. As a kid, it was simple to want a badder bike or super powers or a time-travel machine. Now w...

St. Louis Recap

Well, I finished three songs while in St. Louis, so I'd have to say it was a productive trip. Of course, there were the gigs too. Crave was a blast and the St. Charles Coffeehouse was nice too. Spe...

Craving Renaissance

St. Louis is an old city, but one that seems to be finding some new life. I played tonight at Crave, which happens to be a coffeehouse that's a church...or a church that's a coffeehouse. I haven't r...
