Born and raised in Montreal, Michel Pontbriand grew up in a classical music environment attending a specialised school from 7 to 17 years old. During that period he played several instruments ( violin for 2 years, piano for 3 years, euphonium for 5 years, xylos and metallophones for 5 years ) and sing those 10 years for the school choir.
He afterward left that efficient but rigid environment for the DIY college of life. At age 17, he discovered bands like Mr. Bungle, Tortoise, Shellac, The Jesus Lizard, Mogwai, Sonic Youth, Godspeed You Black Emperor, The Melvins, John Zorn to name a few, alongside the Festival De Musique Actuelle De Victoriaville....then Aphex Twin, Plastikman, Basic Channel, The Perlon crew and friends ( Dimbiman, Ricardo Villalobos, Dandy Jack, that Stephen Laubner track on the 13th release, Pantytec, Sammy Dee, Soulphiction, Kalabrese, Luciano,..), Herbert, Thomas Brinkmann and is friend Akufen then change my vision of what could be electronic music. He worked for Mutek's Hub Records shop for 3 years alongside Vincent Lemieux, Musique Risquée's headman. He's still into Prokofiev, Shostakovich and J.S Bach's - the Goldberg Variations by Glenn Gould ( that 1955 recording in NY ), a timeless classic. A fan of Ennio Morricone's and Peter Greenaway's movie soundtracks, he's also inspired by the ''Jazz Age'' spirit of the end of the 19th- beginning of the 20th century . He's now with the Musique Risquee crew in Montreal alongside the Mutek Festival. He runs a weekly event called Fricoti every thusrday nights @ Salon Daome in Montreal where yo can hear him djing. You'll hear is first release pretty likely in 2008.. Djing since 2000. Producing since 2006. Record seller ( Atom Heart 364b Sherbrooke e Montreal ) and @ the Mutek Festival since 2002. With the Musique Risquee crew since 2007.''Without music, life would be a mistake''
