Maria Lucia Safi was born in Detroit on July 13th, 1979 into a family where almost everyone danced, played an instrument or sang. Maria began dancing at age three and soon began teaching herself guitar and piano. No one was surprised when she began writing poetry and song lyrics at age 7. Maria sang with the choir from age 7 to 17 and also sang in a group called the “Blue Notes” at age 12. Her first acting experience was at age 10. As a young adult she attended Oakland community college where she engaged in performance art and liberal arts. Ms. Safi sang back up for “Tempered”, “Joe cane”, “Rob Lundy and the Cold Lantern Regime”, and she was the lead singer and guitarist in “2 ROADS”. She has performed as a solo artist on and off since age 7. She has written several original songs, and she has also dabbled in production. She continues to pursue her lifelong dream of inspiring people through her art. Currently, Maria is a freelance writer working in costume design and production. Most of her time is spent working with artisans, filmmakers and musicians and designing costume pieces. But most importantly Maria Lucia finds her way into the mainstream of beating hearts one person at a time.
