MAFRIQ PROFILE"We hail from a place built by the Rozvi called Dzimbaramabwe: Zimbabwe, mumusha waMambo Haarari, Harare. We stand as three young Zimbabweans whose vision is to bring out a sound which is distinctly Zimbawean by showcasing our culture in our music.Our music is called Afro soul/Afro pop, a contemporary music genre fused with our traditional instruments such as Ngoma ,Mbira,Nheketo,Duriro and Marimba.The name of our group is Mafriq (My Africa)."Mafriq is made up of the lead vocalist, ethnic soul songstress Pauline Gundidza [Pop], complemented by male vocalist "The African Hurricane", Lovedale Makalanga[te grp Zibbres longet fing urn gp _Iscord] and a very strong ethnic hip hop fusion completes the team, coming from conscious rapper Tungamirai Mavi[Mudd Mulla,2nga T ].
Since recently Mafriq has taken on a band comprising of five talented musicians which goes by the name of GhetToRoots.The group Mafriq first came onto the music scene in 2004 with the hit single "Ndokuudza sei". which hit number one on both local Radio and Television and won an award for the 'Most promising new artist' with the Zimbabwe Music Awards{ ZIMA} and Best Video same year. The song inspired the debut album which was released in 2006, entitled "Chizevezeve". As the group's first effort it successfully established the group as a staying force and not just a one-hit-wonder leading to countrywide exposure and popularity. Over the years Mafriq has perfomed with the likes of Pitch Black Afro, Bongo Muffin, Luciano,Joe Thomas, Dorothy Masuku, Mafikizolo, Malaika, Alick Macheso, Oliver Mtukudzi to mention but a few. Their memorable performances at the Zimbabwe Mozambique Solidarity Bash, Manica Arts Festival,Harare International Festival of the Arts {HIFA} to mention but a few have made them Zimbabwe's longest standing urban goup.Currently Mafriq is awaiting an oppotunity to release their latest offering, a new album called "Shungu Dzemoyo.Mafriq are proud Ambassadors of Zimbabwe and are involved with charities with a cause for vulnerabe women and children suh as SOS Children's Village, Harare Children's Home, Tanaka home for Girls and other orgnisations.
