About Me

This page is dedicated to Philip Rivers, who is the best player in the NFL. He is a quarter rock because his granddaddy had sex with a mountain. The Philip Rivers era is officially under way in San Diego. With incumbent Drew Brees leaving San Diego to sign with the New Orleans Saints, Rivers takes over in 2006 as the Chargers starting quarterback.Growing up in Alabama, Rivers did not attend his first professional football game until he signed with the Chargers. He wears number 17 in honor of his father, Steve, who wore the same number in high school. Philip has worn it since the ninth grade. Philip’s number was retired before his final home game at North Carolina State.Philip married his childhood sweetheart, Tiffany, after his freshman season at N.C. State when he was just 19 years old. He asked North Carolina State Head Coach Chuck Amato for his permission before asking Tiffany to marry him. Philip’s dad was the best man in the ¬wedding. The couple has three daughters, Halle, Caroline and Grace.Philip’s name, spelled with one “l,” comes from the Bible. He prefers to be called “Philip” but will answer to “Phil.” In college, his nickname was “Cheese” as in a Phil(ly) cheese steak sandwich. His favorite meal is meatloaf, fried okra and cabbage, and he enjoys a wide range of music from country music to the band OutKast.Rivers’ favorite quarterbacks are Joe Montana, Dan Marino, John Elway, Troy Aikman and Brett Favre. When he was in kindergarten, he worked as a water boy at Decatur High School in Decatur, Alabama, where his dad was the head coach. As part of a fifth-grade project, he had to make a poster about his dreams and aspirations. On the poster, he pasted his face over that of a Minnesota Vikings player who had appeared on a cover of Sports Illustrated.Charger fans unite. Philip Prevails. Marty Prevails. Respekt
