Funky pop-folk singer/songwriter Timothy Slater is a naturally gifted performer. Born and raised in Tasmania, Timothy played in various bands for many years, becoming well known on the local music scene as the front man for The Talk. During their seven-year stint, The Talk supported bands such as Midnight Oil, Australian Crawl, The Divinyls and Split Enz.
In 1990 a job transfer to Adelaide signaled the break-up of the band and the end of an era in Timothy's life. After moving to Melbourne in the late 90s, Timothy joined two a cappella groups; the dynamic male quartet Naked (with Phil Heuzenroeder and David Cross) and gospel inspired vocalists Heart'n Soul (inc. Tracey Miller, Heidi McDermott and Glenn Tanner). All the while he had been penning his own songs and, in 2002, he resigned from his corporate career to follow his music passion.
His debut solo album Inside Out, produced by Richard Pleasance, is the result. Timothy's own musings on life, love and loss are strongly present in his music. His soulful voice and poignant lyrics allow a glimpse into his inner most thoughts and personal experiences. Some of his most beautiful, touching and evocative songs can be heard on this album. Timothy Slater wrote all but one of the tracks on the album (Tracey Miller's 'Walk on Out') and plays acoustic guitar and percussion on most of the 11 tracks.
Producer/multi-instrumentalist Richard Pleasance features on the album playing a plethora of instruments including electric guitar, bass, double bass, dobro, mandolin, keyboards and drums with some vocals thrown in for good measure.
Other musicians featured are:
Glen King - Drums
Mark O'Connor - keyboards/piano accordion
Glenn Tanner - vocals
Felicity Knight - vocals
