Dick Chapman

About Me

Dick Chapman meandered onto the Houston acoustic music scene late in life, having survived fifteen years of country dancehall smoke playing bass guitar for several area bands. Desperately seeking a life, he began frequenting open mics around town, finally able to share the music he’d enjoyed when no one else was around. His blend of folk, country, rock and “other” music is appreciated by the many fans with whom he shares a last name, and some other people, too. He has a particular fondness for songs which tell stories, no matter the style.

Dick can also be found from time to time making music with some of his best friends in "These Guys Here." Raymond, Reese, Rick and Dick play an energetic mix of classic rock, pop, country, and a hint of folk. They have fun, and their audiences do, too!

Dick credits an eclectic mix of musical influences ranging from Merle Haggard to Leon Redbone; from Chuck Negron of Three Dog Night to The Oak Ridge Boys. A native of West Virginia, Dick got to Texas as quickly as he could.

What a Great Christmas

Christmas was absolutely wonderful. Being a blended family, we had "virtual Christmas" early, and so missed the last-minute shopping frenzy. We had the whole local extended family over to spend the ni...

The cantata is now behind us, but what a great experience. First, the services were powerful, and moving. Second, I got to participate in making worship music with some great musicians who are also so...

Group cantata practice today

Today was the first basic band practice for the cantata, and it went pretty well, I thought. I made my share of mistakes, but at least I didn't feel like they were waiting for me. The people are great...
