MOOKED OUT.......AHOY!!!
Baltimore, Maryland, USA. Having witnessed what has been coined, the “golden age†of hip-hop, his sound is reminiscent of a time when emceeing was truly about being real and relaying your experience as only someone “from there†can. On the surface he may seem like any other MC out here with a dream of changing his destiny through rap, but after listening to his music you become acutely aware that he brings something refreshing to the game. The last several years have been spent building a solid rep as one of most underrated, but respected MC in one of the grittiest of U.S.’s cities. No stranger to hard work, his sales pitched has been honed after many years of selling CDs out the trunk all up and down the eastern seaboard. Though still very much part of the musical powerhouse, Balls N Nuckles, in 2001, Mooked Out assumed the helm of his own independent label, Outside Music. With his first official release, the J-Funk produced two song promo disk “ON THE GRINDâ€, the world got its first taste of what he likes to call “Harbor Water†-named for the often time mysteriously murky and stank, liquid that has been home to many a dead body. Or as Mooked Out puts it, “my flow is like the Harbor Water that's because it's dirty like that it's really not my faultâ€. Building on the momentum of the promo, Mooked Out teamed up with J-Funk again in 2003 and again in 2005, to release the critically acclaimed “THE GO GETTA†and “BALTIMORE AMSTERDAM“, the latter being his first full length solo release. It was with these releases that Mooked not only established his self not only as a lyrical force, but made his production skills highly sought after as well.In 2007, Balls N Nuckles released a collaborative mix tape, entitled, The Duct tape. Featured on 9 tracks, Mooked Out proved that this laid back, but lyrically explosive Baltimore native is capable of offering something more than the monotonous litany of drugs, guns, and debauchery that represents the Hip Hop zeitgeist. Next up - in 2008, Mooked Out will release a Mixtape, ARM'S KROSS CHEN UP, as a prelude to his much anticipated debut album tentatively titled, THE HARBOR. With the production assistance of Mike Mac, J Funk, Tom Flex, Billy Keyz, and a newcomer out of Philadelphia named Riheem, each track takes on a life of its own allowing listeners to live vicariously through the tales he weaves. There are definitive signs Baltimore will once again reclaim in prominent position in the music spotlight. You’d be hard pressed to find an artist that better represents the real Baltimore story than Mooked Out. © Courtney N. Wheeler
