Nu Age Ape, had just finished his time as lead singer of The Driving Under Influence, regarded then as a conceptual Indie Funk Rock band, they won a couple of prizes in Portugal in 97 and 98, 2 finish in 99, as everything that is good does! 'till then he was also composing for the Sloopy Joe, and other obscure projects, in Oporto.They meet.
They hate eachother.
They make peace.
And started to explore the wonders of Dance Muzic.In 98 in a Rockers Hi-fi Party for 90 people in a space for 1700..ahahah, they decided they could do that, and put out a sound system called Daddy Cool! the project was a DIY sound system that included beatboxes linked via midi 2 sinths, through guitar pedals, live bass and scratch, Frank sinatra like voices over break beats that mutated all the time into something else! the 7 was caotic, and most people didn't know if they dance, or if they stared. This project ultimately defined what they would do for the next 9 years. DRUM AND BASS, NU BREAKS, INDIE DANCE ROCK AND DOWNTEMPO.
In 99 they landed on a Progression session, opening for Rantoul, Blame, and LTJ Bukem. And a month later they were spining recs back 2 back with the then unknown Gus Gus.
Things were just starting, they set a small dj agency called The FUNKNICS and set a party called The DRUMATIC FUNKNICS around 99, That was tottaly drum and bass oriented, runing for 6 months @ Meia Cave in Porto.The Nu Age Ape, back then known as Deadly Cut, moved 2 LDN.Just Lee became resident at Hard club till 2003.In 2004 they became residents @ Maus habitos, runing a party called ENDURANCE, where in 2 rooms Drums would clash with Jacking house and Broken beats.In 2005 they where DEAD.To celebrate it they started THE DEAD:LEES, a project where all their influences Clash, becoming 1.It's all about beeing us! with u!Thank u 4 your time.
