I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

Brief John(ny) backstory: While a disillusioned Computer Science student at Carnegie Mellon University, I realized my love of computers had always been their potential for creative outlet, not the behind-the-scenes programming with which I was immersed. Since the internet work I wanted to specialize in didn't have a major (this was in the mid-90s before web design courses existed), I transferred to Michigan State University to complete a more creatively challenging degree in Music Composition. To pay for my education, I became a web designer and producer of internet courses at MSU's Virtual University, and expanded my digital skill set. After a brief stint as a web and graphic design instructor, I became the Senior Media Designer at a Lansing firm for nearly five years. In April 2006, I decided to branch out on my own to explore full creative freedom, and opened a design and photography studio in Lansing's Old Town, the (ae) studio and gallery. ( aenow.com ) I presently take on design, photography, and video production clients of my choosing, and sell my original work to the public.
To be able to make my living as a creative professional, on my own terms and to the benefit of others in addition to myself, is the current cumulative expression of my life's purpose and desires. And, it's still early. I think. :)

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Someone who isn't afraid to challenge themselves (and me) on an intellectual level. Someone who's spontaneous enough to say "sure, I'll do a cameo for you" or "lets fly to Texas tomorrow"; Someone who isn't afraid to share their own poetry or photography or art or interests or passions. Someone who realizes that being a responsible adult does NOT mean you can't still skip around Toys R Us or a playground and laugh like a ten year old sometimes. :) Thinking about my best male and female friends, what they all seem to have in common is that they have some sort of drive or spark inside them, the desire to improve themselves, or the world, or both. It's addicting to surround yourself with that kind of excitement.

24 v Heroes

I can't BELIEVE that the season finale of 24 was better (in every objective and/or rational and/or irrational way) than the Heroes finale. The 24 finale made me excited, jump up and down, scream, cry,...

Bells: The True Story of McPherson's Retirement

Thought I'd try out MySpace's video abilities; the following is something I made last year which will probably only be amusing to former MSU Music grads who know Disney's "Hunchback of Notre Dame" pre...
