MICHEL BISCEGLIA trio
â€Michel Bisceglia’s artistry, prowess and vocabulary at the piano delivers a well versed slant on the traditions of modern jazz. He has taken an astute look at all the masters of his instrument and developed a uniqueness, all his own.
I highly recommend the Michel Bisceglia trio. Our audience loved him.â€
- JOHN NUGENT Rochester International Jazz Festival
Pianist, composer and arranger Michel Bisceglia is one of the most important and most vigorous musician from Belgium. He worked with the greatest Belgian and a serial of international artists. Rarely we can hear him with his own pure jazz trio with his own music. However the Michel Bisceglia trio is pure lyrical style and great class. On their first cd “About Stories†he had the privilege to work with Randy Brecker and Bob Mintzer.
Michel Bisceglia took his time to develop its most personal project. Since 1997 he recorded only three cd's with his trio, but they played on world-famous jazz festivals as the Rochester International Jazzfestival (USA), and the Guimaraes Jazz Festival (Portugal) with Dewey Redman, Ulverston Music Festival in UK. The three CD’s are one after the other masterpieces, exercises in subtilized meditations on intangible melodies.
The latest trio CD "INNER YOU" reduce the so typical inner playing to a profound simplicity. With ingredients lend to film music, the arrangements are homogeneous and melodious, whereas they remain rooted in the jazz. An environment which brings about on the one hand a serene rest and on the other it speaks to a strong imagination.
The adult inner game between the virtuosity and the musical roots of Michel Bisceglia, accentuates the character of its music.
A typical characteristic of Michel Bisceglia is working with artists outside the jazz world. In a coproduction with DJ Buscemi a new album was recorded with live ensemble. This album release is planned in September 2008 on Blue Note Records
Michel Bisceglia, born in Belgium on January 4, 1970 to a family of Italian origin, was introduced to music very early in life by his brother, who was a musician as well. Although, he began playing the keyboard by age 6, his formal training began at age 12 on classical piano. A few years later he switched to modern piano and by his second year in high school, Michel knew that he wanted a life dedicated to music and began an intense daily practice regimen at the piano. Early on in his development, Bill Evans, Lennie Tristano and Keith Jarrett were important piano influences. While access to the music of Mozart, Rachmaninov and Stravinsky he inspired his compositional and orchestral instincts. After few years of extensive self-study he began working as an composer, arranger, conductor and producing records.
