About Me

With his finger on the pulse of Montreal's clublife, DJ, promoter, media and club manager Tron Huu never misses a beat. His passion for music and creative sensibilities have led to a rich and varied career that continues to challenge and inspire Montreal nightlife. Whether you catch sight of one of Impact Media's mobile billboards, "get down" in System or the award-winning Jet nightclub, or tune in to Tron's distinctive grooves on Mix 96 Sunday nights from midnight to 3AM, you will experience the influence and imagination of this dynamic music entrepreneur.Tron's career in the music industry began in the mid-eighties when he accepted a job in sales for WOW records. He made one request - to be paid in vinyl. In 1987 he entered the club scene as a lighting technician for the very trendy Montreal nightclub Chez Swann. His first-hand observations from within led to his own visions of what makes a club vibrant and enticing. He embellished on this knowledge and, within a year, became a self-made promoter - turning ideas into parties, parties into events and establishing a solid reputation for packing clubs and bars with special theme nights. In 1988 he founded The Montreal Bar Hop, one of the largest and most successful events in inter-collegiate history that continues to have a following of over 10,000 thrill-seekers each year.In 1995 Tron went from promoter to nightclub owner. He, along with a small consortium of friends, bought out a club that he promoted, closed it for a complete overhaul, and in 6 months re-introduced it to Montrealers as one of the largest clubs in the city. The challenge of filling this multi-level complex, with its capacity to host over 1500 people, is a testament to Tron's understanding of Montreal club-goers and his innate feel for the music. Unprecedented crowds appeared week in and week out, making The Coliseum Montreal's number one hot spot of the time.Ready for the next challenge, Tron ventured down a new path in 1997 when he sold The Coliseum and acquired 50% of Grooveland Productions, the founding fathers of RnB and Hip Hop hype in Montreal. With his resounding influence, Tron established the young urban street sound using Mix 96, Montreal's most popular mainstream radio station, as a catalyst to propel RnB and Hip Hop within the market. Grooveland was also responsible for originating strictly RnB theme nights through "Honey" Saturdays and "Ice Cream" Sundays - two nights that became the impetus for bringing Montreal's urban music scene to the masses. In 1998 Tron formed a strong partnership with another group of savvy individuals to open one of Montreal's most prosperous nightclubs ever - Tokyo Bar - a club lauded internationally in publications such as The Wallpaper and Max Magazines. Tron's creativity combined with his partners' business sense made for this exciting and accessible hotspot noted for its ability to attract a large variety of people every night of the week. At its inception Tokyo Bar featured RnB and Old School on Sundays... Drum n Bass and Trip Hop on Tuesdays... Wednesdays featured House ... Thursdays highlighted 80s flashbacks and on weekends Tokyo went mainstream, playing to a consistently packed club.In 1999, as a means to better promote his clubs and ideas, Tron collaborated with 3 friends to dream up and manifest a fresh and unique approach to billboard advertising. Rather than waiting for a potential consumer to spot an ad campaign, why not bring the ad campaign to the consumer? This was the premise behind Impact Media (www.impact-media.ca). With a fleet of 27 flatbed trucks, some equipped with rotating triangular panels and backlit surfaces, Tron literally took his brainchild to the streets of Montreal. Today Impact Media is the largest mobile billboard company in Canada. In the year 2K Tron left Tokyo Bar and opened the award-winning Jet Nightclub (jetnightclub.com) - 5000 square feet imbued with mammoth sound & lighting, a large dance floor, island bars, a VIP section and a definitive DJ line-up. Montrealers voting in the Montreal Mirror - the widely-read alternative weekly - have voted Jet Nightclub Montreal's Best Dance Club for 5 consecutive years - from 2002 until today. In 2005 Tron introduced yet another music-driven hotspot to the heart of the nightlife district - System Nightclub (systemnightclub.com). With 2 different levels, 2 sounds, and a capacity to host 1000 party people, System offers the city the hottest in DJing and glamorous grand-scale festivity every Thursday through Saturday.Though consistently sought by retailers, club owners and other business people for his promotion ideas and expertise, Tron never lost the music. He remains true to his passion, spinning on Montreal airwaves every sunday night, from midnight to 3AM, on MIX 96. Tune in to the evocative spaces created through his rhythm and flow. Seamless transitions lead you through a myriad of moods - at once stirring and sincere - inciting an honest yet passionate connection with your very soul. Tron's delicate seduction comprises both an explosiveness and mature patience. Be sure to experience his trademark sound on MIX 96 in his Sunday night broadcast TRANSMISSION.
